This site wants to be platform and a virtual – international – meeting point for everybody with interest in the history of the Scots Brigade in the Dutch Republic. With news about research initiatives, publications and activities.
You are invited to become a Friend too. By visiting us and by sharing information.
Bachelor and Master students are hereby explicitly invited to write a thesis about the Scots Brigade. We greatly encourage research from various angles and methods in which the Scots Brigade has a role. However, we also included a list of potential research topics, and a bibliography on our website for inspiration.
The best thesis will be awarded with a prize. The Friends of the Scots Brigade Foundation starts in 2022 with a price of €500,- for the best Bachelor thesis and in 2023 for the best Master thesis will be awarded €1000,-
The prize winning thesis will be published on this site of the Friends of the Scots Brigade if the winner desires.
The jury consists of three Dutch (military) historians. Professor dr. Ben Schoenmaker, director of the Dutch Institute of Military History, as President of the Jury, accompanied by dr. Roelof van Gelder and dr. Erik Swart.
They will select the winning thesis to the Board of the Friends of the Scots Brigade Foundation who will reward the price during a special event.
