The Friends of the Scots Brigade is an initiative of mr. Rudolf de Blij, LLM, M.Phil.
His interest for the Scots Brigade origins from the moment of his discovery that his oldest known ancestor in The Netherlands appeared to be a soldier in the Scots Brigade who served under Colonel Sir Walter Scott of Balwearie in Gorinchem in 1658.
Little is known of the 200 year history of the Scots Brigade in The Netherlands, which started already in 1573 with the Siege of Haarlem. To know how the Scots contributed to the origin and the safety of the Dutch Republic is a passion of him .
In combination with the desire to stimulate others in the same interest.
Together with Theo Dekker, MSc, MA, he started the Friends of the Scots Brigade, a foundation which aims to promote the knowledge and expertise about the Scots Brigade. His background as a historian combined with his broad connections in the academic world, are ideal to make this initiative successful.
